Senior Dunce – ‘Bestial’ EP

/

The Bestial EP captures the infectious dance, house, and electro-pop synergy of Senior Dunce, an artist based in Seoul, South Korea. The EP, which features both the original “Bestial” and an extended mix, showcases the evident songwriting and production talents of Bestial, who has over two decades of experience as a producer, sound designer, educator, and club owner.

The track features the magnetic vocal work of California-based Cheshy, and also sub-vocalist contributions from Gimpado, who also featured on Senior Dunce’s previous single, “City Centre.” Amidst the thumping electronic pop immediacy is an introspective thematic hold, conveying themes of self-awareness and acceptance — urging listeners to come to terms with their primal impulses and imperfections; its reflections prove poignant in emphasizing how remnants of humanity’s untamed side remain, despite progress.

“You cannot be dancing, if you′re not ready for the roar,” Cheshy’s vocals emanate alongside momentum-filled synths and escalating rhythms, with lyrical references to “an animal inside of me” pointing to the titlular focus — “say it loud, I’m bestial.” A replay-inducing persists on both the original track and its extended mix, which delves into a headier rhythmic build-up and more prominent contrasts between subdued dreaminess and the invigorating title-centric hook.
