Silk Daisys – “kiss me like you mean it”

/

Atlanta-based duo Silk Daisys unveil a captivating dream-pop and post-punk convergence on debut track “kiss me like you meant it.” The release precedes their debut album, out later this year and engineered by Damon Moon (Bathe Alone) and mastered by Mark Gardener (Ride).

Moody guitars, fondly reminiscent of Chameleons UK, meld with nocturnal synths as a suavely impactful vocal presence emerges — beckoning eventually to “kiss me like you mean it.” The sound stirs in its nostalgic, yearning immersion and lushly melodic prowess, with shades of Cocteau Twins in the “hold me” aspirations and textured guitar ascents.

The married duo of James and Karla comprise Silk Daisys, and this track captures an early phase of their relationship, when they were just friends. As James explains:

“Karla and I were best friends for years before we decided we were in love. We’ve been married 15 years now, but throughout our relationship I have been afraid to write about us, like it would jinx us or something. I had to get over that when working on the album. I wanted “kiss me like you mean it” to capture the nervousness and excitement of a first kiss between best friends. That’s a very high-stakes kiss. You can really wreck a friendship by trying to wedge romance in. Luckily it worked out for us, but I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t a little terrifying at the time.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Dream-Popk.
