Moody guitars and spacey synths intertwine on the fantastic “On the edge,” a recent track from Aircraft, the one-man band of Ukrainian musician Daniel Merkulov. Multiple synth layers, exuding a prancing playfulness and spacey mystique, align into a post-punk guitar rumbling — crafting a memorable soundscape from the get-go, with shades of Pet Shop Boys, Depeche Mode, and New Order.
“When I need your love, I have to ignore it…” Merkulov’s vocals let out, exuding palpable yearning and isolation as pulsing rhythms, hazy synth pads, and sharp guitar lines cohesively meld together. The track excels in its vibe-y electronic and post-punk fusing, consistently atmospheric and intriguing — while also enveloping in lyrical sentiments that capture a simultaneous desire for love though also a tendency to avoid fully embracing its possibility. “On the edge” is a standout success from Aircraft.
