Just Bodies – “Static”

“Static” is an ardent rock success from Just Bodies, a band based in Manchester, UK. A climactic production, spanning from chilly subduedness into heavier swells of distortion and fervent vocals, accompanies resonant lyrical perspectives on disconnection. “This song was born from a place where numbness and sensitivity collide,” the band explains. Metaphorical uses of “static” and other forces, like tides and gravity, prove artful in emphasizing increasing distance from oneself, others, and reality in general.

Haunting guitar trickles converge quickly into sturdy percussion and swells of distortion, then emerging with a moody vocal disposition and lyrical depictions of tumult. “Underneath the waves, feel it pulling me,” they let out, conveying that sense of disconnection — either via tidal forces, gravity, or one’s own emotional volition — as a chilling “breathe the static” tonal ascent commences. A haunting “you’re in the static” mid-point bridge also enamors. Thereafter, an anthemic vocal vigor invigorates as a more prominent distortion takes hold, a moment that also consumes in the “make me whole” yearning that moves into an impactful final minute. Produced and recorded independently, “Static” is a powerful, heart-on-sleeve rock success from Just Bodies.
