Infusing country and blues within soulful depictions of complex love, “Low High” is a memorable new track from Omer Netzer, an artist originally from Nahariya, Israel, and now based in Nashville. The release follows up Netzer’s single “Midnight Blue,” which caught our ears in June with its haunting blend of emotional lyricism, twangy guitars, and dream-inspired melancholy. “Low High” continues his penchant for emotive, melodically affecting songwriting.
Netzer describes this latest release as “a story about how love can wreck you and still feel like the only thing worth holding onto.” He continues: “If you’ve ever loved someone like hell, then you already know what this is.”
“Low High” excels right away with its dynamic, fulfilling traversal. Bright piano work, clap-laden enthusiasm, and cheery vocal ambience quickly shifts into an acoustic-laden barroom setting. “This old bar sure is getting lonely, familiar faces, nothing new to do,” Netzer lets out, as organs infuse seamlessly into those “drinking all alone until I met you” feelings of renewal. The central hook — “I go low, you go high” and aspirations to “meet somewhere in middle” — compels in its vibrant, hooky vigor, while also artfully capturing the back-and-forth nature of a relationship’s complexities — from its low and high points. “Low High” dazzles in its palpable energy, especially in the enthused vocal layers and frolicking country/blues instrumentation; it represents another standout success from Omer Netzer.
