Proxevita – “Shine like a star”

Consuming in its dreamy atmospherics and evident emotion, “Shine like a star” is a recent track from Proxevita. The North Carolina-based project achieves a ghostly soundscape within, melding chilly vocal layers and twinkling intrigue with spacey synth pulses and a cinematic string-laden backing. The result sounds like something fit for the lonely reaches of outer space, as one floats along and hopes for any form of connection.

“Shine like a star” was written by Proxevita as an anthem for anyone who has felt brought down by the world — though pushed through with perseverance and light, regardless. “Shine like a star” is a captivating success from Proxevita, also noted for being a performing artist with Climate Live, in addition to having recently played SXSW London, Earth Fest, and London Climate Week.

Rhythmic electronic ruminations ease in initially, reminiscent of Depeche Mode, as strings push forth a starry-eyed appeal. The dreamy vocal composure then emerges with enveloping mystique, sounding like a cross of Portishead and early Grimes in its tonal dynamics — from hushed initial introspection to heightened, ghostly emotion around the track’s mid-point. “Shine like a star” is an inspiring and melodic standout from Proxevita.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
