Seth Schaeffer – “I Found A Monster”

Eerily atmospheric yet thematically invigorating in its perspectives of self-acceptance and personal confidence, “I Found A Monster” is a new track from Seth Schaeffer — whose sound captivates in its mixture of eclectic string infusions, rumbling percussive flair, and intensifying vocal emotion. The orchestral-set enthrallment feels wonderfully cinematic, reflective of works by influences such as Hans Zimmer and Trent Reznor. The overall production is a resonating standout from the Nashville-based artist.

A foreboding title-touting vocal declaration eases in right away, as murmured guitars and glimpses of strings swell with atmospheric mystique. The simmering orchestral power continues throughout, into the “found a monster inside of my head” lyrical perspectives and the looming threat of that “monster” conquering everything in its sights. A whirring, grandiose expanse takes hold as brass infusions complement a more furious string-laden arsenal, which then scales back into a melancholic introspection in the ensuing poetic prowess: “Color in the lines and turn the page / Lived a death to serve the masquerade.”

The thematic push for self-acceptance and empowerment flows especially well in the final section, as Schaeffer’s vocals let out “can’t turn my back now, it’s gonna feed” in reference to the monster’s looming presence — at this point unavoidable, though something he’s more than willing to confront. The textured, ardent sound intermingles with various background vocal elements here, as a twinkling intrigue lingers within the dynamic orchestral, which ends with a solemn decisiveness. Excelling in palpable atmosphere and emotion, “I Found A Monster” is a grippingly memorable success from Seth Schaeffer.
