Manchester-based trio Digging for Kanky deliver a shadowy, intoxicating atmosphere on their new single “Send Me Away,” a track that thrives on tension and release. Blending trip hop grit with downtempo pop intrigue, the song unfolds in riveting form — touting brooding textures, cinematic strings, and shifting vocal presences that blur the line between confession and incantation.
“Send Me Away” grips right away, and doesn’t let go. Mellow keys and sporadic rhythmic elements assemble for a late-night soundscape to start, traversing into vocals that exude a “hope that my soul will be saved” and wave-riding vigor. “Take me to space,” the vocals continue to beckon as thumping rhythms align with wintry piano complements, adorned by swells of string-laden mystique.
A more vibrant vocal lead emerges thereafter, along with a soulful backing reflection. “Time is a prison and I can’t get out,” they let out. Gorgeous string arrangements come into fuller focus here, as well, making for an absolutely consuming mid-point. “The sunlight fades away, I’ll pave the way,” the hip-hop vocal entry returns to close the track out with sating impact.
