Jordan Seven – ‘7’

A comforting, harmonious rock sound compels on 7, the new album from Orlando-based Jordan Seven, blending indie and classic rock with heartfelt introspection. Written during pandemic isolation, the record channels resilience, hope, and gratitude, pairing driving guitar riffs with warm, melodic vocals.

“Walking deserted streets during the pandemic with my late dog, “Honor”, helped me find the authentic voice that I had been searching for as a musician,” Jordan Seven explains. “His resolute, forward motion during those somber nights helped inspire me to create a heartfelt album of songs about perseverance, and finding beauty and hope in the face of life’s challenges.”

“Every Moment” opens the album in stirring form. “I still recall the way it felt in spring time,” vocals ring out amidst fluttering, jangling guitars. The recollections of renewal — and a hope to “all go back to dream time” — exudes a sweeping sense of escapism. Twangy guitars and steady rhythms immerse during the central hook, where the vocals attain a bright perseverance in a commitment to “find a way.”

That track’s power-pop spirit then moves cohesively into another charmer, “Zephyr Girl.” A more psych-friendly tone emanates, as hazy guitars and harmonious vocal layers emit a sense of yearning and adoration for the title-referenced figure. “Before you know it, you’ll be hypnotized,” the vocals ring out aptly. “Enchanted by the spell she has on you.”

Another standout track, “So Far Away” plays with a reassuring tone within its warming rock sound — acknowledging the “worry that’s within you” and expressing ever-lasting love. The subsequent “When the Rain is Coming Down” also stirs in its depictions of kinship, moving in its central refrain with swaying guitars and playful piano touches. Meanwhile, “Come Back, Jenny” delights in its raucous rock spirit. 7 is a collection of quality songwriting, full of heart and melodic enjoyment, from Jordan Seven.

“Zephyr Girl” and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
