Plaid Lion – “Follow Me”

A lush, hypnotic blend of nudisco, jazz-tinged pop, and soulful sophistication drives “Follow Me,” the new single from Tacoma, WA-based duo Plaid Lion. SaraEllen’s inviting vocals and keys intertwine with Ian Franzel’s upright bass and subtle percussion, creating a groove that balances playful escapism with sleek lounge elegance. Written and arranged by the duo themselves, the track channels carefree wanderlust, imagining spontaneous getaways and sun-soaked reveries, while maintaining a polished, immersive sound

A blissful, hypnotic sound never lets up throughout “Follow Me,” which grooves along with seamless entrancement. SaraEllen’s beckoning vocals to “follow me” exude a lushly absorbing immersion amidst panting percussion, lounge-set key chilliness, and a laid-back bass pulse. “What if right now we just booked a flight?” her vocals ask. “Told the office you’re a memory.” The escapist temptations — “nothing’s keeping you here, c’mon let’s go” — pair wonderfully with anesthetic-friendly instrumentation, with touches of jazz, soul, and trip-hop. An additional, debonair vocal touch in the final minute traverses into a sating send-off. “Follow Me” is a warm, sophisticated pop success from Plaid Lion.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
