A hypnotic, dreamy standout single from Tropigloom, “Invisible” unveils a post-punk and shoegaze immersion. The Toronto-based project excels in mood and atmosphere here, traversing from jangling guitar trickles and introspective vocals into a moody plea. “I just wanna be invisible,” the wistful vocals let out there, while hazy textures meld seamlessly into the clanging guitar feeling, tonally reminiscent of a cross between Interpol and Chameleons UK.
The project is fronted by artist Andrew Roy, also noted for his work as a session musician in several Toronto-based bands, including as guitarist for Hannah Georgas on her album For Evelyn. “Invisible” represents the first single from Tropigloom’s upcoming 4-song EP, Everything Now But In Reverse, out on November 9th. Conjuring an immersive, lush sound with replay-inducing qualities and a compelling sense of nostalgia in its shoegaze-y layering, “Invisible” is an excellent showing from Tropigloom.
Roy elaborates further on this excellent track:
“Invisible is about the yearning to be unaffected by the difficulties in life and how suppressing them often will only make them worse. This type of feeling became easier to reflect on after having a near-death experience. A moment that erased old baggage and left life feeling eerily familiar, but profoundly altered. The past was suddenly clearer and no longer weighed down by repression.”
