Channeling a bluesy rock passion amidst themes of resilience and self-love, “Blessed” is a resonating new track from Amelie. The London-based singer-songwriter is only 13 years old, though crafts a sound with convincing heart and emotion in addition to its thrilling production — seamlessly infusing confident guitar swells amidst Amelie’s soulful vocal charisma. Amelie wrote the track after being inspired by a letter written from a fan, about his son Oliver, who lives with cerebral palsy.
“I’ve written a lot of songs, but this is the first time I’ve written one that felt this meaningful, like it had a real purpose,” Amelie says. “I wanted to help, and I wanted people to hear Oliver’s story.”
“I can’t write my name, but that don’t make me less,” Amelie’s rousing vocals enter as grandiose strings, stomping rhythms, and climactic guitars converge seamlessly. Amelie’s vocals intensify throughout, all whilst emphasizing the “don’t make me less” refrain — accounting for everything from day-to-day tasks, to dealing with the pain of medical procedures. An artful shift takes hold as she lets out “You’re the hero, that makes us blessed,” — invigorating in portraying those who struggle, and persevere, as personal heroes. Infusing a blues-rock sensibility with orchestral-laden flair, “Blessed” is a fantastic piece of songwriting from Amelie.
Amelie has pledged to share half the track’s royalties with Oliver’s family, to help him buy a wheelchair following government cuts. The release mixes melodic immediacy and true heartfelt purpose to result in a shining success from Amelie. Pre-save the track here prior to its October 24th release.
