Chris Rendell – “Hook, Line & Drinker”

Infusing relatable breakup sentiments within a harmonious alt-country and rock fusing, “Hook, Line & Drinker” is a resonating new single from Chris Rendell. The artist drew inspiration from a friend who was undergoing a divorce, capturing those difficult times — and also the importance of moving on and embracing one’s hobbies. “I knew I had something special, so I let the song breathe until the right moment,” says Rendell, who crafted most of the track in a late-night jam session with military friends in Virginia Beach. “That night gave me the inspiration to finish it.”

Bursting guitar twangs open the track with alluring qualities, into a relatable vocal narration that presents a relationship in strife — and the living situation being in similar “isn’t looking so green” disarray. “She came home flipping, said I’m watching too much TV,” Rendell’s crisp vocals let out, setting the scene of an unkempt home and “I don’t care” response.

The ensuing drive in grabbing a tacklebox and heading out the door invigorates, heading out to the memorable fishing hole and coming to a cathartic conclusion whilst there — that she “isn’t worth my time anymore.” The ensuing “drink her out of my mind” refrain exudes heart-ache, as does the string-laden laments of financial infidelity. “Hook, Line & Drinker” is a stirring success from Chris Rendell, capturing the power of hobbies, like fishing, in helping to get over a tumult-filled relationship.
