Fawn Ridge – “Eliza”

/

Brooklyn-based band Fawn Ridge consume with gripping momentum on new single “Eliza,” building from ghostly reflections into a rousing ardor. Trickling, forlorn guitars and solemn vocals push forward with intriguing entrancement, admitting to the titular character that “they were supposed to protect you” with heartrending emotion. Organ infusions and vocal harmonies during the “change your name” segment then flows into gorgeously twangy guitar work, before falling back into the opening’s dreamy, subdued introspection.

The track has become a favorite of audiences when the band performs it like, and it’s easy to see why — with an ample array of gripping tonal twists/turns, vocal expanses, and poetic lyrical expression. “It’s about generational trauma and leaving a home that let you down,” they explain. “We recorded it as a live band in the studio and added harmonies later on.” The result is something that enthralls in its structural ascent and overall melodic drive.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Rock.
