FICMARO, the Toronto-born electronic producer now splitting time between Canada and Spain, presents a striking debut LP with Tidal Reflections, a 13-track journey that balances ambient textures, tech-house grooves, and cinematic dreamscapes. Crafted between the cities of Toronto and Barcelona, the album reflects a meditation on stillness, movement, and personal peace, threading lush synths, glimmering strings, and intricate rhythmic pulses throughout.
An illuminated introduction commences the release, weaving starry-eyed keys and hypnotic string-laden undercurrents for a blissfully gripping atmospheric construction. Its elegant dreaminess then shifts into the more pulsing charm of “Canto Delle Sirene [Sirens Song],” where sturdy rhythmic elements intermingle with gorgeous wordless vocals, gliding piano, and a harp-like glistening. The enthralling opening continues with “The Sunbathers,” reminding of a more effervescent Burial in its radiant vocal infusions being paired with nocturnal, thumping electronic edges.
The aptly titled “Dreamscape” is another stunner, certainly crafting a dream-like state in its swells of glimmering synths and arrival into a playful final sequence, resembling a hazy Parisian dream setting with accordion-feeling jauntiness. The ensuing “Echoes of a Lost Empire” succeeds in another realm entirely, as its ominous ghost-like effects combines with a dance-ready rhythmic pulse for an infectious, dazzling sense of momentum. From catchy standouts like “Echoes of a Lost Empire” to the string-laden grandiosity of “キス・ツナミ [Tsunami Kisser]” and the balmy pep of “The Sunbathers,” Tidal Reflections struts an abundance of quality productions.
