greta fisler – ‘ephemera’

Lausanne-based art-pop singer-songwriter and classically trained guitarist Greta Fisler presents a stirring sound on her self-produced debut album, ephemera. Crafted over several years, the record merges delicate acoustic textures and subtle synth layers into a personal exploration of sound and poetic lyrical power. The album spans a rich sonic palette, moving from the fragile folk-like introspection of “fragile before this quiet (ode to light)” to the atmospheric, haunting resonance of “the thread unravels.”

Gorgeously inviting album opener “fragile before this quiet (ode to light)” infuses gentle acoustics and playful marimba within an ethereal vocal charm. The album consistently enamors in its poetic lyricism, and its opener does so impactfully as well — delivering imagery of warmth seeping “through the curtain” and later exuding how “light became an act of grace” in the morning’s “untouched beauty.” The ensuing “dear july” unfolds with more spacious, minimalist beauty — weaving jazzy bass and solemn vocals, framing the summer month as embodying first love and awakening in artful letter-like form.

Another excellent track, “the thread unravels” plays with haunting impact as spine-tingling vocal layers move with sporadic entrancement, recounting the power of love through density, atmosphere, and after separation. Through cosmic imagery (“is that you conquering the atmosphere?”), the track transforms loss into connection, suggesting that distance cannot sever what remains woven between two souls. ephemera consistently delights in its heartfelt, lushly enveloping songcraft.

“the thread unravels” and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
