Fusing Americana and folk within a thematic embrace of love, “If You Let Me” is a resonating new track from Virginia-based artist Lora Kelley. Coming via her upcoming album, Where I Am Now, “If You Let Me” stirs in its perspectives of mutual love, and also the mending that is required within any relationship.
“This song is a little bit about negotiating with our wounds – our capacity to love and receive love,” Kelley says. “Shared love is love that is felt by both parties. Where both people can impact each other to the degree that they experience being love – at the same time,” she continues. “If that’s not happening – then the question becomes – what’s coming between my feelings of love for you and your ability to feel that. And can we be with whatever that is so that you actually get to experience and feel what it feels like to be loved.”
A mellow atmospheric entrancement commences the track, as lush guitar twangs, moody synth, and a glimpse of percussion ease into Kelley’s riveting vocal performance. “If you let me, I will love you, no one needs to show me how,” she sings amidst stately piano pulses, offering to “put my arms around you” and embracing all inner-faults; the lyrical depictions of unconditional love are resonating, and especially so when building alongside Kelley’s powerful vocal tone and the graceful, glistening instrumentation.
“I will chase the sun right down, because I wanna get us right,” Kelley’s vocals continue with climactic allure, as the piano work persists alongside sporadic rhythmic pattering. The ensuing “look me in the eyes” pleas to open up vulnerabilities — and cherish the ability to lean against each other — traverses into a moving finale, bolstered by a final title-touting declaration and warming tonal send-off. “If You Let Me” is a melodic and emotively sincere standout of a track from Lora Kelley.
