Gary Patrick – “Closed For Repair”

Singer-songwriter Gary Patrick channels weathered heartache and ensuing perseverance on his latest single, “Closed For Repair.” Co-written with longtime collaborator Ken Orsow and produced by Chad Mauldin, the track blends Americana warmth with Patrick’s gift for vivid storytelling. Drawing from decades of musical experience — from his California roots to Las Vegas stages — the song captures a man reckoning with heartbreak and healing whilst on the road.

“I’m driving down this highway tonight, trying to run away from my life,” his vocals ache, exuding a sense of heartbreak and soul-searching in admitting “this heart is closed for repair” as moody organs meld with soft acoustic strums and twangy guitars. The lyricism succeeds in its emotional ferocity, and also its palpable scene-setting — singing “mile after mile comes the rain … the wipers keep rhythm with things I can’t change, but don’t clear the tears in my eyes.” The visceral image of someone suffering emotionally, while driving through the rain-soaked highways, is constructed with cinematic allure.

Soaring guitar work bolsters the track’s energy past the two-minute mark, with the “love don’t happen like that” multi-layered vocal call stirring in its ardor, before leading into a wholly sating conclusion. “This may take some time,” the introspective vocals admit there, as the heart’s “closed for repair” status remains. “Closed For Repair” is a moving piece of high-quality songwriting from Gary Patrick.
