Los Angeles-based artist Mia Loucks unveils a dreamy folk allure on new single “Body,” whose music video we’re excited to premiere today. Madeleine Woolner’s breathtaking video takes inspiration from experimental filmmaker Wolfgang Lehmann, while also succeeding in conceptually capturing a butterfly’s life cycle in narrative form. Starting with the butterfly’s death, the video incorporates swiftly changing, colorful imagery from butterfly to cocoon — artfully capturing themes of personal growth and nature’s imminent fate.
The track’s lushly absorbing folk sound enamors throughout, kickstarted by delightful vocal layers and subdued acoustic strums. “It’s so weird how a body feels like a boulder, a mountain you cannot move,” ethereal vocal layers let out, arriving into an “until you do” sense of confidence. Twinkling keys add a weightless, serene charm in the track’s second half, as do light synths — bolstering a magnetic overall soundscape that captivates in its delectable haze.
“And I dreamt that we’d move out of here,” the vocals resonate as the second half moves in, exemplifying urges to grow forward and move on following tumult. The track’s lyricism — feeling self-exploratory and motivational yet reflective — is apt in the context of the music video’s butterfly-laden life cycle imagery. The combination of gorgeous music video and compelling dream-folk songcraft make “Body” yet another standout success from Mia Loucks.
