Recorded with Kevin Basko (Rubber Band Gun) at studio Historic NJ, the track infuses caressing vocal harmonies and bright guitar jangles alongside introspective lyrical artfulness, thematically conjuring a drive to embrace life’s heavy, often messy realities.
Exuding a Wilco-esque progression in its vocal and guitar tone, the track commences with a breezy radiance — as chiming guitar layers pair with accounts of memory’s instability: “It only held its meaning tenuously / Balancing the past as you imagine it to be.” The title-bearing questioning is an especially memorable moment, melodically, as the vocal work thoroughly excels into a light touch of piano. “Who Can Count on Careless Love?” is a lovely piece of songwriting from Double Truck.
