Great Horned Owl – “Dust of Life”

/

A sense of cathartic escapism combines with a gorgeous folk production on “Dust of Life,” the latest single from Great Horned Owl. The Portland, Oregon-based project of Vanderson Langjahr already released one of the year’s best folk albums in Longyear, and “Dust of Life” stirs as a wonderful first single to follow it up.

“We are the dust life” is repeated throughout with mantra-like impact, resonating both in moments of barren acoustic-set contemplation and more orchestral haunts. “There will be no homecoming,” Langjahr’s vocals let out with heartrending impact, as solemn strings creep in and the acoustics trickle with steady allure. The fingerpicked tenor guitar, double bass, and viola captivate with their melancholic cumulative display, while Langjahr’s enamor with sincere, heartfelt immersion.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Folk.
