Jumpball – “Crazy Taxi”

/

A fuzzed-out rocker with late-night driving inspiration, “Crazy Taxi” is a memorable track from Jumpball, the collaborative musical project of Nashville-based artist Robbie Jackson, who plays the role of songwriter, while other artists provide lyrics and vocals. In this case, Abby Clark (from the band Sister Kit) consumes with an introspectively melodic presence, providing a perfect complement to textured, twanging rock allure — inspired by shoegaze acts like Starflyer 59. The sludgy guitar tones are complemented in especially riveting form by glimmering keys in the final minute, making for a resonating finale, following the delectably melodic ascent there.

The title itself is a nod to the video game, and Abby’s childhood love for it. It’s a classic game, that was on one of the best consoles ever (Dreamcast!).

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
