Lani Daye – “broken”

/

A lovely shoegaze-forward sound shines on Lani Daye‘s “broken,” melding jangly guitar undercurrents with colorful bursts of emotion. “I used to know,” the soaring vocals let out during the central hook, retrospective in its dreamily inviting lyricism and vocal tone. “Wishing I could turn back time and leave it all alone, hope I didn’t blow my shot with you still on the phone,” the vocals continue, dazzling into a series of twanging guitar ardor and harmonious, wordless backing vocals.

The track is a resonating showcase in production and songwriting from Lani Daye, who describes the track’s lyrics as tackling “a realization of feeling lost and left behind while not recognizing who I am when looking in the mirror.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
