Maffa Rico – “Left of SoSo”

A grooving rock stylishness stirs on “Left of SoSo,” a memorable new track from Maffa Rico that blends smooth brass, dynamic vocals, and suave guitar work with intoxicating effect. Led by singer and multi-instrumentalist Bradley Giroux, the Los Angeles-based project notes drawing inspiration from Wilco’s “Spiders (Kidsmoke)” and LCD Soundsystem for the track.

Several inventive recording effects feature, such as placing the saxophone a room away from the microphone — resulting in a hazy, immersive tone that pairs wonderfully with the other instrumentation. Additions of keys prior to the three-minute turn also prove riveting, crafting a spy-theme type of allure. “Left of SoSo” is a stellar showing from Maffa Rico.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
