Rejection Ratio – “Love is Like Heaven”

Rotterdam-based Rejection Ratio craft an enveloping rock sound on recent single “Love is Like Heaven,” traversing through jangly guitar fervor and dynamic vocal entrancement in its whirring, climactic unveiling.

Comprising the quartet of Nelly (vocals), Ruud (bass), Pityu (guitar), and Ton (drums), the band’s roots trace throughout the ’80s and ’90s; they recorded an album in 1997, and then went on hiatus, with those recordings temporarily tucked away. Fortunately, the band reunited following the resurfacing of an old cassette version. The original DAT tape and one preserved track were digitized and remastered, and now the band’s compelling music has found its way to a variety of new ears.

“Love is Like Heaven” kicks off with steady rhythmic charm and a playful emergence of jangling guitars. Nelly’s vocals then emerge with an ethereal immersion, as a shh-ing hypnosis ventures into a title-bearing exclamation. A chilly mystique lingers throughout the verses, serene and inviting, while the patiently revealing vocal intensity swells with invigorating impact. The shh-ing and ha-ha displays of personality also envelop, in regards to the vocal performance, as does the intertwining of pit-pattering drums and “love” vocal refrain as the track comes to a close. “Love is Like Heaven” is a memorable showing from Rejection Ratio.
