“Drift” is an invigorating track from Silverdeer, dazzling with a rumbling array of guitars, propulsive rhythms, and ghostly vocal entrancement. Stirring with a ’90s alt-rock nostalgia in the guitar work’s tonal ferocity, especially, the track builds with artful momentum as the subdued vocals accelerate into a scorching, textured hook: “But if you drift away, I’ll bite down.” It marks a thorough success from the Los Angeles-based act, formerly known as saturn 17.
Silverdeer elaborates on the track’s creative process:
““Drift” started as a really raw, instinctive idea—born out of a moment of emotional unraveling. It came from a place of disconnection, where desire and infatuation blur your sense of self. As the song developed, it almost took on a double meaning—capturing not just that personal feeling, but also reflecting where we were as a band. We were experimenting, letting go of old structures, and following what felt honest. The writing process was fluid, and as soon as we started working on it with Casey Lagos, the sound started to take shape in a way that felt totally aligned with where we were headed creatively. It was the kind of song that revealed its purpose as we built it—and it ended up becoming the foundation for everything that followed.”
