Sunshine Coast, Australia-based artist Optacure collaborates with Philippines-based Ean Aguila on new single “Angel,” crafting a tender, multi-layered indie rock ballad propelled by glistening guitar twangs, lush acoustics, and soulful, vulnerable vocals. The track immerses in themes of human connection, support, and resilience, capturing the quiet, guiding presence of “angels” in everyday interactions.
A warming, layered sound emanates right away — infusing lush acoustics and sporadic twangs into a vulnerable vocal entrancement: “I woke up wondering if I’m gonna make it through today somehow. I’ve lost my way, I feel like I don’t belong.” Honesty in asking oneself “am I hard to love” furthers that heartrending immersion, depicting personal tumult with sincerity and anguish — though also highlighting the power of having support to help through it all.
“The struggle gets harder and every time it comes back, but I seem to always have support in the toughest times,” Optacure explains. “Whether it’s a shoulder to cry on, a random message from an old friend, or just a refreshing conversation with someone, there seems to be signs guiding me to rethink my thought process and regarding my struggles.”
The beauty of connection and support as a guiding light is conveyed artfully in the track, emerging as the guitars assume a flourishing twanginess. “No words can say how much it meant to me, when you came over,” the vocals resonate with gratitude. “No words were said, but I know you shared my pain.” The “you’re always there, watching” vocal elongation continues that affection and warmness, perseverant as the vocals vow to “keep breathing” into further glistening guitar twangs. “Angel” is a caressingly melodic success from Optacure and Ean Aguila.
Optacure says further of the track: “This is my representation of an angel. It’s not a singular entity. It’s all of the things we get support and love from. There can be an angel in every single one of us, and we can be angels to one another. The important thing is to recognize it, listen/learn from it, and accept the love.”
