peruvian bear club – “stupid”

The fantastic debut single from London-based music collective peruvian bear club, “stupid” channels a spirited, anthemic charm in its glowing pop production and thematic embrace of joy, in all its forms. Impressing across both bursting emotion and synth-touched lightness, the track’s production is exemplary of the stellar songwriting and production coming from the project, which is led by vocalist and writer Mei Melenovsky. Inspired by the poem “Don’t Hesitate” by Mary Olive, “stupid” was produced by Prairies (Jordan Iacovella) and mixed by Grammy-nominated Joey Messina-Doerning — and precedes peruvian bear club’s debut EP, motion pictures, out in early 2026.

A swelling introduction, featuring guitar strums and a vocal countdown fit for the New Year, drives into a magnetic vocal presence — reminding fondly of Snail Mail in its melodic flourishing. Lyrical references to a mess, though also conveying a sense of being smitten in making me “feel like a little girl” — and “changing my goddamn world” as touches of synths precede caressing guitar tones. The “call me by my name” multi-layered vocal bolstering adds further to the replay-inducing appeal. Lyrical ruminations of self-love, and balancing that independent spirit with an adoration for another, persist amidst the track’s lovely free-flowing prowess. The heart-on-sleeve songwriting combines with a hook-ready production for a thorough standout from peruvian bear club.
