Skylarka – ‘Somnorine’

NYC-based artist Skylarka‘s Somnorine is a dream-driven synthwave success, translating the emotions of actual dreams into lush, atmospheric soundscapes throughout its nine memorable tracks. Melding pulsating synths, atmospheric flair, and cinematic textures, the album balances nostalgic warmth with dynamic, ethereal, and otherworldly energy.

“Half-Remembered” opens the album with lush entrancement — weaving mellow synths with pulsating, nostalgic vigor. An alternation of serenely caressing tones and doses of buzzing intensity craft a cinematic-friendly allure. A palpably climactic sound shows within, ruminating on ghostly synth injections as a dramatic unveiling shows. The ensuing “Cybernetic Fist (Maru Malandra Theme)” embraces a more pulsing rhythmic energy, emitting a synthwave-ready splendor with levels of heavy distortion lingering seamlessly amidst the flowing electronic elements. “A Man Beyond Death” continues the album’s sating, dynamic start — here strutting a sound fondly reminiscent of Italo-disco synth-pop with its tightly wound synth tones, spoken-word elements, and driving tonal feeling.

Somnorine continues with an array of highlights throughout. “Amid the Burning Blossoms” presents a starry-eyed demeanor with its twinkling weightlessness, bolstered by bouncy bass and expanding rhythms as the track progresses with a nostalgic, glistening glow. The epic “Unearthly Vagabond” is excellent as well, epic in spanning over nine minutes and enveloping the entire time, with its simmering and meditative ethereality. Somnorine is a gorgeously atmospheric showcase in memorable production and songwriting from Skylarka.

“A Man Beyond Death” and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
