Abstain From Fastening a Brain – “The Distance Between Me & You”

Crafting a caressingly melodic sound with a range of twinkling keys, heartfelt strings, momentum-filled guitars, and a lovely vocal duet, “The Distance Between Me & You” is another standout track from Abstain From Fastening a Brain — this time featuring the vocal harmonies of Chrissy Franklin. The project of Brian Charles Nixon and Stefan Merkel, which also caught our ears with the track “Emit such Light” in May and then “My Sweet Valentine” in November, and delight again here with this new single.

“Barely making it through” lyrical sentiments combine with a flourishing, colorful array of instrumentation — from electric guitar to glockenspiel. Lyrics seem to invoke the sensory distortion of loneliness and the suffocating weight of a silence that feels less like peace and more like a slow, internal combustion. “You’ve been gone, and I’m fading away,” the vocals let out with forlorn allure. “The Distance Between Me & You” is another stellar output from Abstain From Fastening a Brain.
