Originally from Highland Park, IL, and now based in Mount Pleasant, SC, Becky Raisman presents a vibrant vision of femininity and perseverance on her new pop-forward EP, Earth Goddesses. The Columbia College Chicago alum channels a newfound creative growth into these tracks, moving from moonlight-soaked guitar jangles to piano-driven warmth, resulting in an infectious, pop-minded celebration of life’s brightest moments.
A harmonious moonlight gathering is the captivating setting on opening track “Moonlight Goddesses,” with participants basking in a “feminist moonlight” and embracing various forms of artistry, in coming together for a special night. Jangling guitars compel amidst the stream-of-conscious vocal feeling, then enamoring around midpoint as solemn guitar layers move into a twinkling, reflective playfulness. Ensuing track “Live It Up, Live It Loud” stirs with a peppy guitar backing, with shades of reggae as fervent vocals strut a carpe-diem mentality in its title-referencing charisma. Twangy guitars at the two-minute mark bolster the mix enjoyably.
EP finale “Shining Through My Window” delights with an illuminated piano-laden quality. “Your heart is shining on my wall,” soaring vocals let out, with a tender guitar solo punctuating the warming chorus with replay-inducing immersion. The track consumes in its mixture of piano-set introspection and ardent guitar-powered emotion. Earth Goddesses is abundant in sharp pop songwriting from Becky Raisman.
