The rousing single “Anaconda Walkway” from Manchester-based band Deleter captures the dark, hedonistic pulse of city nightlife. Blending jagged alt-rock energy with intriguing post-punk textures, the track explores themes of solipsism through infectious rhythms and suave, biting vocals. Recorded in Sheffield, this release solidifies their continued rise with an atmospheric yet powerful rock production, with no shortage of charisma.
Subdued guitar jangles move quickly into a heavy-charged fervency, both in regard to the guitar’s tonal ferocity and biting vocal precision — tonally reminding of a fun cross between Pete Doherty and Paul Banks. The former is evident as the verses progress with an infectious briskness, pleading to “just listen” through expressive series of movements. A moody, post-punk entrancement then consumes around the two-minute turn, with ascending guitar twangs and ghostly backing vocals maneuvering into the reprisal of the “big mouth” vocal fervency.
“Anaconda walkway, balance,” a suave declaration punctuates the track, which consistently enthralls in its switch-ups between contagious rock spiritedness and nocturnal post-punk intrigue. The result is a thorough replay-inducing success, deftly balancing energy and mood. We’re excited to hear what’s next from Deleter, who are on a clear ascent, following this excellent single and their headlining show at Off The Square last month.
