A captivating album spanning from the fuzzy rock vigor of “Happy Accidents” to the dreamy softness within “Gaztelugatxe,” Feral Kids is a memorable showing from Heists. The release commences with “Learning How to Swim,” beckoning to “jump into the rhythm” amidst a rhythm-focused invigoration, combining with brief crowd ambience and magnetic synths for a delectably grooving charmer. The catchy “Happy Accidents” ensues, exuding a debaucherously infectious charm in the “just wanna party with my friends” ardor, anthemic and buzzing in its replay-inducing energy. The band describes it as “about the feeling of zoning out and losing yourself.”
In the lusher spectrum, “Gaztelugatxe” dazzles within a lo-fi pop caressing — weaving nocturnal synths and meditative rhythms into glimmering keys and a hazy vocal emergence. “Watch the sun go down over Gaztelugatxe,” they let out; the mood and lyricism makes for an ideal sunset-ready listening experience. The subsequent “Parking Garage” is another success, finding a middle ground between excitement and subdued — apt in the band’s description of resembling “a garage rock single sung by goblins.” Initially hypnotic beginnings evolve into spacey synths and intriguing textures, making for another standout track on an album touting an abundance of quality.
