Kindness Inc. – “Seventeen”

Nantes, France-based project Kindness Inc. blends post-punk intensity with a melodic chamber-pop sophistication on new single “Seventeen.” Written and produced by Antoine G, the track utilizes a rhythmic drum machine, steady bass, heartfelt strings, and melodica alongside themes of regret and the protective wish to rewrite a loved one’s history through unconditional devotion.

A warming, hypnotic array of sounds intertwines to begin the track. Bright organs, percussive pitter-patter, and conversational vocals move with inviting allure, and into a yearning croon. “Sometimes I wish that I would be 17 again,” Antoine G’s vocals let out, complemented by emerging doses of violin and melodica amidst the intoxicating rhythm section and lingering organs. Dominique Queffélec’s violin playing captivates especially during the final minute, complementing the “put my arms around you, and hold you so tight” smitten sentiments with a chamber-pop timelessness.

“If I could turn the clock back, rewind the hands of time,” the reflective prowess continues as the gorgeous strings inject seamlessly, exuding a tender sense of protection whilst aching with hindsight, and an all-important desire to rewrite youth’s wounds through unconditional love. The vocal stirs with its plea-like fervency, while the instrumentation unveils with balanced, melodic charm. A wholly affecting success from Kindness Inc., “Seventeen” consumes in its moody, introspective pull.
