MONNE invites listeners into an immersive Nordic art-pop world on the album Jungle of Emotions. Blending neo-folk with layered psychedelia, the Norwegian artist explores ritual aesthetics and organic textures through a cinematic lens. Produced by Geir Sundstøl, the project functions as an emotionally intelligent journey through vulnerability and transformation, rooting its introspective storytelling in the healing power of nature.
An encouraging, warming success with compelling vocal layers and climactic instrumentation, “Wonderful Human” opens the album in rousing form. “You’ve been through some struggle, you felt so low,” Monne’s vocals build amidst sporadic claps and panting effects, culminating in a joyous sense of perseverance. References to one as a “wonderful human” and a “wonderful soul” pair with “you are strong” encouragements as thumping rhythms, frolicking acoustics, and an all-out vibrancy take hold. A consuming, psychedelic array of instrumentation unveils by the track’s end, developing with enjoyable immersion from its initial vocal-led power.
The album’s title track is another standout, yearning for connection with nature amidst plucky, effervescent intrigue. “All that I want to is to feel the sun, against my skin, when I feel down,” Monne sings. “All that I want to is to lay on the grass, look at the clouds.” An embrace of human emotion, and also the therapeutic quality of spreading one’s wings within nature, conjures a free-soul sense of catharsis. A commanding vocal ferocity appears after midpoint, moving into wordlessly expressive background ardor as a ravishing conclusion hits hard.
Jungle of Emotions continues to impress throughout, from the soaring turning-to-fire accounts of personal change within the tribal-like “Circles” to the haunting art-folk mystique of “Wall of Mine.” Album finale “Walking Through Time” also succeeds, closing the album with folk-set intimacy and lyricism suggests the end of a cathartic journey, aptly so. Jungle of Emotions is a powerful listening experience on display from MONNE.
