+tope – “It Fit When I Was (a kid)”

The fourth single from +tope‘s forthcoming self-titled debut, “It Fit When I Was (a kid)” weaves rapid rhythms and shimmering guitar jangles amidst a very personal touch. The track integrates the final voicemail from the artist’s sister, who passed away from cancer. The result transforms an atmospheric indie-rock soundscape into a deeply personal meditation on loss and connection.

Brisk, flickering percussion and jangly guitars assemble for a catchy and hazily atmospheric allure to start. A crawling bass warmness injects cohesively thereafter, with glimmering guitar elements appearing with seamless cohesion alongside. A break comes around midpoint, integrating the voicemail of the artist’s sister — affectionate in its multiple “I love you”s before assuming a reversal effect. Jumpy bass appears in the ensuing section, as the track embraces a more rhythmic precision in its second half. The caffeinated rhythms, crisp guitar tones, and deeply personal impact combine for a grippingly immersive success from +tope.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
