Keith Carne – “37 Hours”

A mediative, blissful rock sound shines on “37 Hours,” a recent track from Keith Carne and his upcoming debut album, Magenta Light, out on 4/20. Also known previously as the drummer and backing vocalist for acclaimed group We Are Scientists, as well as a seasoned session drummer, Carne is also a multi-instrumentalist — performing most of the instruments throughout Magenta Light, in addition to collaborations from close friends Brian Bond, Justin Bestamo Gaynor, Zeno Pittarelli, and Drew Citron.

Noting influences like saxophonist Pharoah Sanders and British artist Fred Again, Carne unveils a magnetic sound on “37 Hours.” Mellow, underlying keys and light percussion complement a jangly guitar warmth, attaining a soaring psych-ready quality as the vocals emit “we’re living in the dark, just after dawn.”

The twangy bursts of guitar and aquatic-sounding keys pair with mind-healing lyrical antidotes, arising into the free-spirited “erase my history / maybe then I’ll relate to astrology” proclamation. Laid-back vocals and hazy guitar work also delight during the “just wanna keep my feet on the ground” yearning. “37 Hours” stirs across both subdued haziness and glistening harmoniousness, leaving us firmly anticipating Magenta Light next month.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
