Wishing Well Divers – “Bottom of the Wishing Well”

A twangy earworm from Wishing Well Divers, “Bottom of the Wishing Well” maneuvers across magnetic guitar work and hooky vocal introspection — finding a lovely middle ground between indie pop and Americana.

Representing the project’s first release since the release of full-length debut Home Sick Home in January, “Bottom of the Wishing Well” delights in its mixture of heartfelt acoustics, melodic whistling, and poetic lyricism — framing the title-touting location as a personal purgatory where discarded desires and “hungry ghosts” coexist. It captures the haunting beauty of unearthing borrowed treasures from the depths of one’s own secrets, ultimately offering a cynical toast to the health of those still trapped by their own unspoken spells.

The release is a fantastic display of songwriting from Wishing Well Divers, which represents the musical vehicle of veteran musician, songwriter, and recording artist Steven Mizener, formerly of Cloud 13 Records’ Pocket Novel Mystery, Tangemeenie, and others.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
