Recorded in the intimate setting of his Phoenix apartment, New York-born artist Bobrosia delivers a sprawling, spiritual exploration of atmosphere and melodically glowing allure on Fold Into The Glow. The self-produced album plays as a personal document of triumph over darkness, blending the experimental pursuits of Aphex Twin and Animal Collective with the harmonic intricacies of Radiohead. By fusing domestic acoustic piano recordings with sophisticated drum machine sequencing and intricate vocal layering, the solo composer crafts a versatile sonic realm.
The album’s title track commences with riveting atmospheric appeal. An ambient swell moves into powerfully trickling piano work and chilling vocal emotion, gradually adorned by multiple vocal layers and orchestral ruminations. This impactfully spacious soundscape then moves into ensuing track “Forgotten Song,” achieving a more tranquil entrancement as lushly soaring vocals build amidst glimmering synths and percussive pitter-patter; the result is thoroughly hypnotic and blissful, sounding like a lovely cross of Björk, Radiohead, and Massive Attack.
Another excellent track, “Split Identity” infuses similarly dreamy vocal tones, here bolstered by pulsing synth-bass touches and spacey synth frequencies. The haunting vocal count-up flashes some ominous intrigue, before colorful synths re-incorporate amidst the ghostly vocals. Elsewhere, “All Is Undone” consumes within a graceful, fantasy-like setting — the harp likenesses and flourishing piano effervescence pairing for a truly enchanting sound, fit for a fairy tale. Finale “Castles” also stuns with its warming brass-laden incorporation. Succeeding thematically in championing light over darkness, and its memorably serene soundscapes reflective of such, Fold Into The Glow is a resonating success from Bobrosia.
