Gomer – “Hot Dog Hot Car”

Propelled by a post-punk rhythmic current alongside buzzy synths, melodic guitars, and climactic vocals, “Hot Dog Hot Car” is an enveloping new track from Gomer, the Los Angeles-based project of Tate Iverson. Described as “about the comically tragic feeling of waiting for one’s material conditions to improve,” “Hot Dog Hot Car” begins with a solemn bass-forward bounce and “I’m burning cash again” vocal lament.

Steadily emerging synth and guitar aspects then come into gradual view, with the electric guitar prominence assuming a vibrant appeal as the rhythmic elements uptick in dexterity. The vocals exude a sort of slacker-rock, debonair intrigue in certain moments, ascending seamlessly into soaring moments like the “I’ve become the dog, in the back seat of the car” declaration. Poetic and hooky, “Hot Dog Hot Car” is a compelling success from Gomer.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
