Highway Wolf – “No Time For Time”

A hypnotic, emotively affecting sound shines on “No Time For Time,” the first original composition from Highway Wolf, a San Francisco-based collaborative project led by Mick Hellman alongside creative partners Tal and Amber Morris. Inspired by the passing of a dear friend, the track explores the cycle of life and the process of letting go — recognizing the present moment as more vital than wallowing in the past. Recorded in San Rafael with a talented cast of Bay Area musicians, the song serves as a centerpiece for their upcoming 2026 EP, Lone, Never Alone.

A gorgeous, spaciously inviting opening kicks “No Time For Time” into motion. Twangy, hypnotic tones exude a meditative blissfulness, made even more serene by a warming dose of wordless vocal layers. “Slip away,” a clearer vocal element emerges, as crisp guitar illumination comes into view alongside a steadily unveiling rhythm section. “Let the past just trickle by, raise a glass and wave goodbye,” the introspective, warming vocals let out, beckoning that “it’s time to fly” with a comforting tonal resemblance to Roger Waters.

Bursts of fervent guitars complement an ensuing dual-vocal chilliness, encouraging to “go in light” and culminating in a resonating “never really is goodbye” reminder that we are all a part of the same life-death cycle — and as such, it’s best to let the past just “trickle by” and focus on the present instead, where loved ones can still be revered and one still has the capacity to “fly.” The carpe-diem sentiments combine with a harmonious, psych-friendly production for a resonating, standout piece of songwriting from Highway Wolf, timeless in its production and thematic sentiments.
