Infinitefreefall – “Cursed Object”

A delectably sprawling rock epic from Charleston-based project Infinitefreefall, “Cursed Object” is a riveting single that traverses 18 minutes of dynamic, climactic live-improvised creativity. The act notes the release being for fans of Iron Butterfly’s “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida” — in addition to acts like Phish and Swans. The result is an immersive listening experience with a myriad of standout moments and consistently excellent production. Their full-length Belief Systems was one of our favorite albums from 2024, and this track further exemplifies Infinitefreefall’s avant-garde range.

The production consumes in its initially debonair intrigue, exuding a sort of spy-theme envelopment as twangy guitars and steady rhythms assemble with hazy, psychedelic appeal. This cinematic build-up arrives into sweltering doses of distortion by the five-minute mark, seamlessly escalating from spacey engrossment to full-throttle ardor. A soulfully, memorable vocal soaring arrives around the track’s midpoint, injecting wonderfully amidst the textured guitars and fervent percussion. Delighting between both murky intensity and crisp psychedelic allure, “Cursed Object” is a gem of a track from Infinitefreefall.
