Jeff Kolhede – “Ranger”

A soulfully hypnotic intrigue emanates throughout “Ranger,” a newly released track from Jeff Kolhede. The single is another success from Kolhede, who caught our ears a couple months ago with “Special One” and its bossa nova and pop intertwining. “Ranger” melds a haunting vocal presence with a nocturnal, grooving entrancement. Brassy flourishes and mellow guitars coexist with mellow cohesion, as the vocals shift between a title-touting serenity and more pointed observations on the American Dream. The final minute is especially intoxicating, as smooth brass and wordless vocals combine for a smoothly transportive gorgeousness.

Per the description: “This track is a ghost story for the modern waking world—a haunting reflection on the thin, fraying line between the sanctuary we build and the shadows we ignore. It is a mysterious and unapologetic tale that functions as a look in the mirror, questioning what remains of the American Dream when the sleep finally ends.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
