Fusing indie-rock ardor with spacey synth textures, “ENJOY THE RIDE.” is the debut single from LAWIJT., the DIY solo project of Niels Strybos. This Dutch-Belgian project — whose name is a dialect word for “loud noise” — embraces raw, imperfectly human production. The track serves as an anthem for escaping daily life and simply appreciating the journey, pairing those themes of escapism with a resonating rock sound.
The production jumps seamlessly from perky synth-forward enthusiasm to blaring rock ‘n’ roll. “Don’t take my high away, I can’t quit you baby,” a confident vocal presence emerges alongside the growing, distorted guitars. “You can’t quit me baby, but maybe that’s okay by you,” the vocals continue, launching into an anthemic title-bearing fervency as an added twangy guitar layer enters the fold. The spacey synths and brief rhythm-less prowess then returns, as does the seamless shift into further rock-ready “can’t quit me” sentiments.
A riveting sequence takes hold as the two-minute turn approaches. “They want to enjoy the ride,” the vocals maneuver there, into a momentum-filled ascent of synths and drums, culminating in a “please don’t take my joy away!” vocal pleading as the whirring hard-rocking guitars reflect the vocals’ intensity. Between the more debonair title-touting hook, spacey synth glimpses, and exhilaratingly anthemic rises, “ENJOY THE RIDE.” is an impactful, replay-inducing success of a track from LAWIJT.
