Oui Plastique – “Revival”

Danish electronica duo Oui Plastique craft a moody, memorable soundscape on new single “Revival,” the first single from their upcoming album, Forever Will Be Over Before You Know It. Comprising Martin Nyrup and James Thomas, the duo describe the output as “a meditation on resurrection after destruction” — capturing a tension between “collapse and renewal,” and a cycle between falling apart and then re-assembling. It’s further clarified as a release ultimately “about choosing to feel something deeply rather than surrendering to numbness.”

The writing-and-production partnership of Nyrup and Thomas show a knack for both gripping atmospherics and emotively stirring melodic power with “Revival.” Embracing a dark synth-forward mystique, with touches of guitar that remind of Depeche Mode, the production gets underway in aptly moody form. “I sit in the rain, and lose it all the same,” the vocals let out amidst nocturnal synth ruminations, the ensuing “returning to live another day” lyric representing a perseverant spirit, and the nature of things to return eventually following collapse. The production achieves a gloomy, introspective charm throughout with its standout production and heartrending vocals.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
