Ryan Kotler – “By My Side”

A memorable folk track with a thematic sense of adoration and yearning, “By My Side” is a strong output from New Jersey-based songwriter Ryan Kotler, who left a litigation career to pursue music full-time. Drawing from Americana and bluegrass, this sincere track embraces honesty and vulnerability, emphasizing the power of human connection through poetic storytelling.

“In the brightness of the blessed day, or blackness of the night,” Kotler’s vocals open amidst vibrant acoustic strums, yearning to “have you by my side” through all landscapes — from “the coldest foreign shores” to more familiar territory “where the fiddle softly plays.” Kotler’s vocals move initially with a solemn, introspective entrancement, escalating emotively just prior to the one-minute turn. “Yesterday turns to the future, and the past becomes tomorrow,” Kotler lets out there, lamenting he has “no star to follow” without the beloved by his side.

Gorgeous string infusions enter past this captivating first minute, bolstering the heart-on-sleeve vocals and melodic acoustic guitar steadiness. The strings continue to dazzle throughout the lovely finale, moving into a warming guitar-laden send-off. “By My Side” is an affecting folk success from Ryan Kotler, pairing themes of sincere adoration with a serenely absorbing folk production.
