Sound Science – “open late drifter”

Fit for nocturnal introspection, “open late drifter” is a soulful slice of alluring lo-fi pop from Sound Science, an Iowa City-based artist and producer. Representing the first single from his new album, at the end of the day, “open late drifter” does well in capturing a late-night walk, with stream-of-conscious vocal prowess and electronic atmospherics melding for a memorably serene sound.

Mellow, lounge-friendly keys and solemn bass groove into a warming vocal presence, initially wordless in its soulful expressions. “Sometimes it’s hard to think clearly in the moment,” a riveting lead emerges, its “in the dead of night, words are getting lost” depictions of nighttime soul-searching fully compelling. A walk in solitude is further established, as “familiar ghosts” haunt in front of “neon storefront signs.” The track, in both its vivid lyricism and laid-back instrumentation, enthralls in conveying heartful late-night stroll.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Emerging Singles’ Spotify playlist.
