A love song that blends electronic and organic elements with captivating intrigue, “MIND” is the latest single from German artist XINTRA. The release comes via the upcoming DAYDREAMS EP. Developed in a compact Hamburg studio by multidisciplinary creator Heiko Ritt, the track was composed using a purely analog toolkit, including vintage drum machines and a physical piano — and avoiding any MIDI and computer generated sounds. The output also reflects a period of significant personal transformation, where Ritt utilized his love for intricate keys and downtempo rhythms to process complex mental and physical health challenges
A lushly absorbing atmosphere is crafted immediately via a spacey synth backing, subdued rhythmic pit-pattering, and a yearning effect-laden vocal presence. The addition of solemn, sporadic piano and a heartfelt vocal lead pushes the emotional trajectory into clearer view, ascending in passion as the vocals let out “you took all the darkness in your heart” as the piano and electronic elements intertwine cohesively. The “sleep tonight” sequence ensues, its vulnerable vocal beckoning for understanding and clarity — “just want to know if I’m on your mind” — delighting amidst the melancholic, affecting soundscape.
The three-minute mark consumes as well in its continued piano and synth synergy, as the vocals continue to wonder with heartrending qualities if they still exist within a loved one’s mind. The next sequence invigorates in its layered intertwining of murky vocals and wordless harmonizing, bolstered by whirring synth elements and elegant piano alike. An emotional, lushly atmospheric gem, “MIND” is exemplary of XINTRA’s ability to craft memorable soundscapes and artful song structures, drawing from a love for both electronics and raw emotion.
