Acorn Theory – “Cold Rain”

“Cold Rain” is an impactful new track from Acorn Theory, seamlessly infusing the soaring charisma of Highland bagpipes within an approachably melodic and psychedelic indie pop allure. Glistening keys, doses of catchy bass, and introspective vocals play seamlessly alongside the blaring bagpipe presence, existing both as an upfront source of vigor initially and also as a more complementary undercurrent, later on. The Rochester-based act first caught our ears in 2024 with stellar single “Fireflies” and album Remember the Toad, and now “Cold Rain” continues that impressive, creative energy.

The psychedelic rock elements appear with particular enjoyment past the two-minute mark, its “bottom of the sea” lyricism combining with an uptick of twangy guitar prominence. Guitar pulses and warbly keys meld beautifully around midpoint, as well, before giving way to a blast of bagpipe warmness and “tell you all I love you” smitten vocal adoration. The throbbing bass, illuminated keys, and bagpipe presence bolster magnetic vocals and heady lyricism throughout, representing another standout success from Acorn Theory.
