A bursting prog-rock and psychedelic colorfulness shines on “Path to Totality,” a track from Annie in the Water written for the 2024 solar eclipse. The single made its live debut in the eclipse’s path of totality at Whiteface Mountain in upstate NY. Its shining production pairs dynamic guitars and a climactic song structure with poignant themes, ranging from human connection to personal purpose. Specifically, the band notes it being inspired by “the feeling of cosmic alignment during the eclipse itself” … exploring “the idea that we’re all following our own paths searching for meaning.”
Soaring electric guitar stands at the forefront initially, complemented by reflective glistening and steady acoustic strums. A quest for “finding meaning” and being determined that “I know it’s out there” coexists wonderfully with the lusher guitar dynamics, ascending into more distorted guitar as the anthemic “follow your path to totality” hook arrives. Changing seasons and time’s seemingly endless stretch are subsequently mentioned, framing the search for meaning as one that exists within a world in motion. “Path to Totality” is a movingly melodic rock success from Annie in the Water.
